Project: rubix cube spec ad
Role: motion graphics artist
Rubik's Cube
Sports but cooler.
I was feeling brave and decided to make an extremely difficult technical Motion Graphics project while making sure it was still entertaining.
Mission Impossible.
What if we try to make a functional rubik’s cube in Cinema 4D and solve it while fully rigged sports players are playing sports on the cube while the cube is being solved in real time.
Keeping it fresh.
Each character was playing their own sport on the cube but with a twist. They were all using the same ball, which morphed into different balls as it was passed around between the players. Insanity.
Hole in one.
And to top it all off, the first player (golf) started on one part of the rubik’s cube, and as the cube rotated and different characters interacted with the ball, it eventually ended with a soccer player kicking the soccer ball into the original golf post.
Let’s get ready to Rumble Rubik’s.
Huge learning opportunity
I can’t begin to express how many new features I discovered and techniques I learned in Cinema4D in pursuit of this technical challenge. I think it forever changed the neurons in my brain into understanding that whoever complex the animation you want to make, you can find a way to make it happen.
