Pokemon + Game of Thrones
Mega mash-up
At the height of Game of Thrones popularity, Motion Designers were deeply inspired by how much everyone enjoyed the Game of Thrones intro. As one of those Motion Designers, I couldn’t help but try to make a tribute to it.
Nostalgia-driven.
Obviously I wouldn’t just recreate the Game of Thrones world, I had to think of a franchise with a very recognizable and well loved overworld map and what better choice than the original Pokémon world map.
Towns and Cities.
I recreated a 1:1 version of the Pokemon world. Every building, tree and walkway until I decided that it was detailed enough to really bring delight to whoever watched it. All that was left to do was animated the assets into place, Game of Thrones style, and then camera move through the world.
way better than expected.
When I finally published the video on YouTube, it blew up quickly. It was picked up by many Pokemon and Game of Throne fan sites alike and spread like wildfire. I’m glad that I put as much effort as I did into this video because now it reminds me that no matter how big and aspirational the project, it can be done if you fall in love with the idea.
